Electric Guest is a sharp-witted, groove-driven pop duo consisting of Asa Taccone, sibling of Jorma Taccone from Lonely Island, and Matthew Compton. Listeners first discovered the pair through their 2012 debut release, which was followed by Plural in 2017 and Kin in 2019.

Although Taccone collaborated with his brother along with the other Lonely Island members Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer on tracks such as “Dick in a Box,” his most enduring partnership developed with Compton. The two met while sharing a Los Angeles residence previously occupied by Taccone’s longtime acquaintance Brian Burton, better known as Danger Mouse. While contributing to Saturday Night Live–related endeavors—including Lonely Island material and the scores for the films Hot Rod and MacGruber—Taccone and Compton simultaneously shaped Electric Guest’s first album alongside Burton, an undertaking that spanned more than six years. Their blend of funk, soul, soft rock, disco, and pop materialized on Mondo, which surfaced in April 2012.

The duo spent roughly two years on the road behind that record before resurfacing in 2016 with the single “Dear to Me.” The song featured on their second album, Plural, helmed by Lars Stalfors, whose credits encompass Cold War Kids, HEALTH, and related Mars Volta projects. Taccone and Compton later co-wrote material for Cold War Kids and appeared as guests on a Carly Rae Jepsen track, then reunited with Stalfors for their third effort, Kin, issued in October 2019. That stylistically eclectic collection contained the singles “More” and “Dollar.”
