Hailing from Franklin, Tennessee, Colony House crafts energetic, frequently uplifting guitar-driven rock that weaves in surf and retro-lounge textures, allowing several tracks to emerge as widely streamed underground favorites. The group explored these surf textures more fully on the introspective and nostalgic February 2023 release The Cannonballers.

The band originated in 2009 as a trio comprising singer/guitarist Caleb Chapman, drummer Will Chapman—both sons of CCM singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman—and guitarist Scott Mills. Performing at first under the name Caleb, the musicians cultivated a bright indie-rock approach shaped by alt-rock forebears such as U2 alongside more recent acts like Cold War Kids. In 2013 they adopted the moniker Colony House, taken from an apartment complex in Franklin where each member had resided at various points. Prior to issuing their 2014 debut album When I Was Younger, the trio self-released three EPs. Extensive touring followed throughout 2015, during which the lineup expanded to a quartet with the addition of bassist Parke Cottrell.

Colony House delivered its second full-length, Only the Lonely, in 2017. While several singles drew attention, the buoyant and encouraging track “You Know It” achieved viral traction on multiple social platforms and surpassed 75 million streams. The third album, Leave What’s Lost Behind, appeared in 2020 alongside the concert film Everybody Is Looking for Some Light centered on the band. The following year saw the live recording Colony House Live, Vol. 1 and the Rotten Tomatoes EP, which included a guest vocal from Fleurie on the song “Automatic.” With the arrival of fourth album The Cannonballers in February 2023, the quartet leaned further into surf guitars, bright melodies, and reflective, nostalgic lyricism.
