Biography
Hailing from Milwaukee, the quartet known as Vinyl Theatre creates music rooted in '80s post-punk while blending melodic rock, synth pop, and electronic dance elements. Keegan Calmes, serving as lead singer and guitarist, teamed with keyboardist and backing vocalist Chris Senner to launch the project in 2012, after which bassist and backing vocalist Josh Pothier plus drummer Nick Cesarz rounded out the membership. The Killers, Two Door Cinema Club, and Death Cab for Cutie supplied points of comparison that helped the band claim the top position on Billboard's Next Big Sound chart in March 2014. Their debut full-length, Electrogram, arrived the same year through Fueled by Ramen and registered on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart. Josh Pothier departed before the 2017 issuance of the second LP, Origami, an album that gave guitars a larger presence.
