Biography
Dreamers produce energetic and catchy indie rock reminiscent of Surfer Blood and the Vaccines. Shortly after forming, they toured alongside the latter band. Their initial album, This Album Does Not Exist, came out in 2016. The track "Sweet Disaster" from that release propelled them onto Billboard's rock and alternative charts. They returned to those charts with "Die Happy," taken from Launch Fly Land, their 2019 sophomore effort. Into the following decade, they stayed visible on the Alternative Airplay chart through joint efforts like the 2020 song "Heat Seeker" with Grandson, 2021's True Crime featuring DeathbyRomy, and their own contribution to Chad Tepper's 2023 single "I Wanna Be Your High." The success of this last track aligned with Dreamers issuing their third full-length, Wallow in It, during 2023.
Nick Wold handling lead vocals and guitar, Nelson on bass and backing vocals, along with Chris Bagamery on drums and backing vocals, established Dreamers as a trio in Brooklyn. They put out the energetic single "Wolves (You Got Me)" in 2014. An EP bearing the band's name appeared later that year, drawing notice from indie and mainstream media alike. This led to opening slots with acts such as Walk the Moon, Stone Temple Pilots, and Bear Hands. In 2015 the group moved to Los Angeles, at which point Jacob Wick took over drumming duties from Bagamery.
Next, they inked a deal with Fairfax Recordings, resulting in the February 2016 release of their second EP, You Are Here. It contained "Wolves (You Got Me)" plus four fresh tracks. Their first full album, This Album Does Not Exist, also featuring "Wolves," emerged that August. Following "Wolves," the grittier "Drugs" climbed into the Top 40 of Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart. Dreamers began 2017 on tour with the Griswolds. Throughout the year they appeared alongside Weezer, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and the Maine. Meanwhile "Sweet Disaster" peaked at number seven on the Alternative Airplay chart. By December, "Painkiller" marked the fourth single from their debut to reach the airplay Top 40. Their 2018 EP Launch yielded "Screws," which became their fifth chart entry overall.
After the September 2018 EP Fly came their second LP, Launch Fly Land, in April 2019. "Die Happy" appeared on this album and brought them back into the chart's upper ranks. Additional tracks arrived in 2020 such as "Heat Seeker" with Grandson and "True Crime" featuring DeathByRomy; both landed on the subsequent year's Palm Reader EP, which also featured a title track involving Big Boi and UPSAHL. Each of these collaborations entered the Alternative Airplay Top 40. During the same period, Dreamers joined Garzi on the Magic Whatever single "I H8 Everything." Jacob Wick departed prior to the next EP, Wallow in It, issued in March 2023. It included team-ups with Irontom and Sueco. In that month, their appearance on Chad Tepper's "I Wanna Be Your High" represented the band's tenth Top 40 placement on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart.
