Biography
Emerging from Boston, the Night Game functions as the solo outlet for Boys Like Girls frontman Martin Johnson, shaped by '80s new wave, power pop, and adult contemporary influences. The project first surfaced in 2017 through the single "The Outfield," which included backing vocals by Gotye.
Although formally introduced in 2016, its beginnings stretch back roughly three years before that. Outside his work with Boys Like Girls, Johnson had already built a catalog of songwriting credits for artists such as Jason Derulo, Avril Lavigne, and Hot Chelle Rae. Seeking to broaden his artistic scope, he teamed with Austrian producer François Tetaz, whose prior credits include work with "Somebody That I Used to Know" singer Gotye. Johnson assembled a touring lineup, resulting in the 2017 release of debut single "The Outfield" that again featured Gotye on backing vocals. The following year he delivered the self-titled album The Night Game, which contained both "The Outfield" and the track "Do You Think About Us?" featuring Caroline Polachek.
