Biography
Founded by singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Kenny Vasoli, Vacationer crafts an intricate strain of dreamy indie pop colored by exotica and Tropicalia. Vasoli draws his distinctive production approach from Brian Wilson’s ambitious orchestral pop as much as from the fragmented, sample-driven methods of hip-hop producers such as Madlib. Following the refinement of their sound and the extensive touring that supported the project’s initial pair of albums, Vacationer issued their third and most refined long-player, Mindset, in 2019.
Before forming Vacationer, Vasoli had gained recognition through his tenure in the pop-punk/emo band the Starting Line and through his more exploratory project Person L. Eventually weary of aggressive music and nightly vocal exertion, he launched Vacationer to pursue calmer, escapist atmospheres. Rhythmic, cerebral, and hypnotic yet laced with sincere lyrics and authentic feeling, the group’s debut EP appeared in 2011, with the full-length Gone following in 2012; Downtown Records released both. After sharing stages with Asteroids Galaxy Tour and Bombay Bicycle Club, Vacationer delivered their second album, Relief, in 2014. Extended studio sessions yielded the band’s third album, the Daniel Schlett-produced Mindset, which arrived in 2018. Wavelengths, a completely instrumental set tracked during the same period as Mindset, came out via Paxico Records in 2019.
