A trio of avowed vinyl enthusiasts who relocated from San Francisco to Brooklyn, Lemonade blend post-punk with Eurodance inside their turbo-charged dance resurgence. Following their October 2008 arrival in New York, the group began building sequences inside Ableton Live on a laptop. Each member contributed distinct flavors—Ben Steidel supplying house grooves, Alex Pasternak layering global percussion, and Callan Clendenin injecting spacious ambient electronics. As sessions continued, the musicians exchanged approaches, merged concepts, and introduced live instrumentation. Once they layered live bass, percussion, and vocals atop the tracks, the resulting demo’s propulsive and cross-genre character drew the attention of producer Chris Coady, known for his work with TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and !!!, who then helmed the band’s self-titled debut album. After inking a deal with True Panther, the trio executed a sharp stylistic pivot toward chillwave, employing smooth and tranquil vocals on the 2012 release Diver. They pursued this direction further into bright electro-pop territory on their exuberant 2014 follow-up, Minus Tide.
