Portuguese-born DJ and musician Luis Clara Gomes, now based in Munich, launched his recording career in 2007 by issuing neo-disco and house productions under the alias Moulinex, borrowed from the French kitchen-appliance brand. Those tracks blended relaxed, sunlit rhythms with bright guitar lines and synthesizer hooks that recalled the gloss of 1980s disco alongside the sleek pulse of 1990s French house. Alongside fellow producer Xinobi he established the Discotexas imprint, which began issuing dance material chiefly from Lisbon-rooted artists. After signing with Gomma in 2009 he altered the spelling of his project name to Moullinex and quickly became sought after for club remixes, delivering reworkings for Two Door Cinema Club, In Flagranti, and Sébastien Tellier that appeared on Kitsuné, Modular, and Compost. A series of Moullinex EPs surfaced on both Discotexas and Gomma, followed in 2012 by the debut album Flora, which featured Peaches on a version of Michael Sembello’s hit “Maniac.” Additional singles and EPs arrived afterward, among them “Deja Vu” on Nurvous Records and “To Be Clear” on Discotexas. His second long-player, Elsewhere, reached stores in May 2015 via Discotexas; on that set Gomes supplied every vocal and shifted toward soft-rock and power-pop textures. After joint projects with Best Youth and Lorenz Rhode, the third Moullinex album Hypersex appeared in 2017, spotlighting funk-driven cuts such as “Love Love Love” and “Work It Out.”
