Biography
Low Roar's dreamy folk discovers elegance within life's more melancholic dimensions. Ryan Joseph Karazija, who once fronted the alt-rock outfit Audrye Sessions based in Oakland, California, launched Low Roar after relocating to Reykjavík, Iceland, where abrupt transitions and solitude prompted the new endeavor. Daily songwriting became his means of documenting the struggles of adjusting to an unfamiliar setting, securing employment, and providing for his family, yielding material that surfaced in November 2011 as Low Roar's self-titled debut album. Tonequake Records issued the project, which wove loops and layered textures of guitar, harp, pump organ, percussion, and keyboard beneath Karazija's transparent, gentle vocals and introspective words. Prior to his passing at age 40 on October 29, 2022, Karazija issued four further Low Roar albums.
