English singer/songwriter Andrew “Roo” Panes crafts introspective lyrics, sings with a soulful timbre, and displays deft fingerpicking that have invited parallels to Nick Drake, George Ezra, and Laura Marling. His debut EP Once appeared in 2012, after which he continued favoring a hushed, acoustic approach on every subsequent project, among them the 2014 full-length Little Giant.

Panes entered an artistic household in Wimborne, Dorset, and acquired his Hundred Acre Wood-derived nickname during childhood when he tumbled into a river in a manner reminiscent of Winnie the Pooh’s misadventure while playing Poohsticks. The same year Once surfaced, a campaign for the British luxury label Burberry broadened his visibility. CRC Music then issued the follow-up EPs Weight of Your World in 2012 and Land of the Living in 2013 before unveiling his first proper album, Little Giant, in 2014. Paperweights, the sophomore studio set, arrived in early 2016 and retained an intimate scale supported chiefly by 12-string guitar, occasional piano, and strings. Quiet Man, written and tracked in the English countryside, reached listeners in 2018 under the same CRC imprint.
