Biography
Woodson Black, raised in Massachusetts and now based in London, works under the alias Haux as a singer, songwriter, and producer whose output blends indie electronic, pop, and folk into a dreamy whole. His reflective dream-folk approach first attracted notice in 2016 when the EP All We've Known appeared, prompting parallels to Bon Iver, C Duncan, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich. Two thousand twenty brought the release of his debut album-length work, Violence in a Quiet Mind.
Early life amid the Berkshires’ landscapes instilled a pastoral sensibility that surfaces throughout his recordings. After completing studies at Northeastern University in Boston, Black took an internship at a London record label, where immersion in the city’s music community followed through writing, photography, and composition. Akira Records issued his debut EP, All We've Known, in 2016.
The next twelve months yielded additional dreamy singles such as “Touch,” “Youth,” and “Cologne,” which were later gathered into the 2018 EP Something to Remember. Two years afterward came Violence in a Quiet Mind, Black’s first full-length effort. Thomas Bartlett, whose credits include Rhye and Sufjan Stevens, produced the album, which examined Black’s upbringing through themes of depression, illness, and loss.
