In 2013, Australian singer and songwriter Dustin Tebbutt first surfaced with the richly textured indie folk piece "The Breach," styled after the approaches of Bon Iver and Great Lake Swimmers. Following years spent developing material abroad in Sweden, the Sydney native came back to Australia and secured domestic chart traction, beginning with the 2015 mini-album Home and continuing with the full-length debut First Light.

Tebbutt initially left Australia at the outset of his career to draw inspiration from Scandinavia’s severe and shifting climate, where his musical work took shape. Once established in Sweden, he fused expansive vocal layers with minimal, overlapping instrumentation, letting the unfamiliar surroundings shape the atmosphere of his intense and wistful sound. His measured, emotionally charged songs recall J. Tillman, while the dense sonic qualities of Laura Veirs, Great Lake Swimmers, and Max Richter surface in the 2013 debut EP The Breach. The next year he issued the follow-up EP Bones, then staged a celebrated homecoming with sold-out concerts in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. A 2015 team-up with Brisbane’s the Kite String Tangle preceded the quick release of the seven-track mini-album Home. Guided by its sweeping, hopeful title track, the 2016 album First Light entered the ARIA albums chart at number 13. He sustained visibility in 2017 by supplying the track "Atlas in Your Eye" to the film Jasper Jones, then resurfaced in 2018 with the lush indie folk recording "Love Is Blind."
