London-based singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Jack Garratt merges electric guitar, drum machines, keyboards, and an R&B-friendly falsetto into sleek, dancefloor-focused electro-pop. Having refined his approach throughout the early 2000s, he capitalized on widespread critical acclaim to reach the U.K. Top Three with his first proper studio album, Phase, in 2016. He devoted the balance of the decade to crafting its successor, which surfaced in 2020 under the title Love, Death & Dancing and also placed inside the U.K. Top Ten. Fresh singles have sustained the upbeat momentum, among them the soulful 2023 track “Hands Go Up.”

Born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, Garratt began composing songs at age 12. Acquisition of his initial laptop during late adolescence prompted deeper forays into music production, culminating in the early-2014 release of the single “I Couldn't Want You Anyway.” The track generated significant online attention, particularly across the U.K., prompting festival slots and a sold-out London showcase that same year to mark the arrival of his debut EP, Remnants, on Island. Further exploration of electronic textures with an emphasis on emotional resonance yielded the spring 2015 follow-up EP, Synesthesiac, via Interscope. Twelve months afterward he issued his debut LP, Phase, featuring the sinuous drum’n’bass cut “Fire.” The atmospheric collection reached the Top Ten across Europe and Australia, keeping Garratt touring through the close of 2016.

Re-entering the studio for a successor, Garratt confronted self-doubt alongside the weight of rapid fame. He resurfaced only in 2020 with the EP Love, Death & Dancing, Vol. 1, followed months later by a second installment. The material coalesced into his official second album, also called Love, Death & Dancing, which debuted in June 2020 and peaked at number eight in the U.K. on the strength of singles “Time” and “Better.” After the 2021 live release Live from the Eventim Apollo, he issued further standalone tracks such as 2022’s “Just How I Like It” and 2023’s “Hands Go Up.”
