Biography
As the electronic music duo AlunaGeorge, vocalist Aluna Francis and producer George Reid fused electronic pop, 2-step garage, and left-field R&B. Their partnership began in 2009 after Reid reworked a track from Francis’ earlier project My Toys Like Me, and the pair issued their first material in 2011 via Sweet Recordings on the double-sided single “Analyser”/“We Are Chosen.” Before the year closed, fresh AlunaGeorge versions of Mirrors’ “Into the Heart” and Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” appeared. In June 2012 the R&B-leaning track “You Know You Like It” anchored a three-song Tri Angle EP of the same name, quickly followed by the duo’s take on Florence + the Machine’s “Spectrum” and a vocal rendering of Rustie’s Glass Swords cut “After Light.” Their Island debut single, “Your Drums, Your Love,” surfaced that September and reached number 50 on the U.K. chart.
Early the next year they contributed to Disclosure’s “White Noise,” a number-two U.K. hit, then issued “Attracting Flies” ahead of the album Body Music. That set climbed to number 11 domestically and contained the Top 20 single “Attracting Flies.” Vagrant handled the U.S. release, where Body Music peaked at number two on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums tally. Within twelve months Island followed with Body Music Remixed, featuring reworkings from Kaytranada, Friendly Fires, and Duke Dumont, yet a subsequent non-album DJ Snake remix of “You Know You Like It” delivered the duo’s strongest American performance to date and earned RIAA platinum certification. Between full-length projects, Francis and Reid lent their voices to ZHU’s “Automatic,” Jack Ü’s “To Ü,” Kaytranada’s “Together,” and Flume’s “Innocence.”
Early 2016 brought the Popcaan collaboration “I’m in Control,” the first in a series of singles that led to the guest-heavy second album I Remember, released that September. The pair resurfaced in 2017 with the singles “Last Kiss” and “Turn Up the Love.” In September 2018 they unveiled the tender ballad “Superior Emotions” as a precursor to the Champagne Eyes EP, which arrived later that autumn.
