Hayley Kiyoko stands out as a versatile American performer who balances acting with her work as a pop singer and songwriter. She first gained notice in the 2000s as a member of the pop group the Stunners before shifting focus toward roles in television and film. Her initial solo outing, A Belle to Remember, appeared in 2013 and set the stage for her first full-length album, Expectations, released in 2018, with her second album, Panorama, arriving in 2022. In addition to establishing herself as an alt-pop artist, she has positioned herself as an advocate for LGBT rights by raising awareness and backing assorted causes.

The offspring of actor and comedian Jamie Alcroft and Japanese-Canadian figure skater Sarah Kawahara, she began appearing in commercials and receiving drum instruction while still a child. After finishing high school she concentrated on developing her music and acting paths, securing key parts as Stella Yamada in the Disney Channel movie Lemonade Mouth and as Velma Dinkley in two live-action Scooby-Doo films.

She became part of the pop girl group the Stunners in 2007, during which the ensemble issued an EP and several popular singles such as "Bubblegum" and "We Got It." In 2013 she put out her first solo EP, A Belle to Remember, which contained the single "Rich Youth." The 2015 EP This Side of Paradise marked her breakthrough, driven by the atmospheric electro-pop track "Girls Like Girls" whose video went on to exceed 70 million views on YouTube. The following year she released her major-label debut EP, Citrine, featuring the buoyant pop tracks "Pretty Girl" and "Palace." Her opening full-length album, Expectations, came out in 2018 and included the singles "Sleepover," "Feelings," and "Curious," reaching number 12 on the Billboard 200. A standalone single titled "I Wish I Knew" surfaced in July 2019. With support from Panic! At the Disco and Taylor Swift, she maintained her climb in alternative pop, issuing the EP I'm Too Sensitive for This Shit in 2020 and the full-length Panorama in 2022.
