Biography
Award-winning singer and actor Troye Sivan rose from his beginnings as a prominent social media presence in Australia to achieve worldwide acclaim as a pop artist and leading LGBTQ figure, known for his polished electronic dance-pop sound and unapologetic persona. The 2015 release Blue Neighbourhood marked his entry into mainstream pop, reaching the Billboard Top Ten on the strength of the tracks “Wild” and “Youth.” His next full-length effort, 2018’s Bloom, contained the fourth Australian platinum single “My My My!” Sivan has also issued several EPs, among them 2014’s TRXYE and 2015’s Wild, each attaining the number-five position on the Billboard 200, while a fifth EP titled In a Dream appeared in 2020. After taking the lead role in the 2022 film Three Months, he previewed his third album, 2023’s Something to Give Each Other, with the Grammy-nominated single “Rush.”
Sivan entered the world in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1995 and relocated with his family to Perth, Australia, at the age of two. Educated at home, he pursued singing and acting early on, yet his initial major opportunity arrived with a portrayal of young Wolverine in the 2009 feature X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The following year brought an appearance in the South African film Spud. Beginning in 2007, Sivan posted videos of his performances online, accumulating more than two million subscribers across various platforms, and during this period he independently released the EPs Dare to Dream in 2007 and June Haverly in 2012.
A recording agreement with EMI Australia followed in 2013, leading to the 2014 issuance of his third EP, TRXYE, which reached the Top Ten in Canada, New Zealand, and the United States. Sivan returned in 2015 with a fourth EP, WILD, which he characterized as an “opening installment” of forthcoming material; the project included guest spots from New Zealand’s Broods and Australian rapper Tkay Maidza and was supported by a trilogy of videos.
Blue Neighbourhood, Sivan’s debut album, arrived in late 2015. Joining earlier contributors from the WILD EP were Betty Who, Australian rapper Allday, and producer Alex Hope. The record attained Top Ten placement in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States before a deluxe edition added Alessia Cara to the single “Wild.” Blue Neighbourhood (The Remixes) surfaced in 2016, presenting reinterpretations by Filous, Shift K3Y, and RAC alongside acoustic and live renditions of “Youth,” “Wild,” and “Happy Little Pill.” Following tours in support of the album, Sivan resumed studio work.
His contribution “Revelation” to the film Boy Erased earned a Best Original Song nomination in 2018, the same year “My My My!” was released and subsequently certified platinum in Australia while entering the U.S. Top 100. Further singles “Bloom” and Ariana Grande-assisted “Dance to This” preceded the summer arrival of his sophomore album Bloom. The forthright, celebratory LP incorporated songwriting from Leland and Allie X as well as production by Ariel Rechtshaid and Oscar Holter, ultimately peaking at number four on the Billboard 200. To close the decade Sivan partnered with Charli XCX on “1999,” Lauv on “I’m So Tired...,” BTS on “Louder Than Bombs,” and frequent collaborator Allie X on “Love Me Wrong.”
Sivan issued the standalone single “Take Yourself Home” in 2020, drawn from the EP In a Dream, which also contained “Easy” upon its summer release. Additional tracks followed in 2021, including “You” with Regard and Tate McRae and “Angel Baby.” In 2022 he starred in the comedy-drama Three Months, supplying the songs “Trouble” with Jay Som and “Wait” with Gordi. Mid-2023 saw the arrival of “Rush”—along with its remix featuring PinkPantheress and Hyunjin of Stray Kids—as the initial preview of Sivan’s third studio album Something to Give Each Other. The set of liberated pop anthems included a collaboration with Guitarricadelafuente on “In My Room” and an extended mix of “Rush,” which had already become a worldwide Top Ten hit by the album’s launch and garnered Sivan Grammy nominations for Best Pop Dance Recording and Best Music Video.
