English pop sensation Jess Glynne, whose voice carries a rich and soulful quality, earned Grammy recognition as a singer and songwriter while ascending to chart dominance; she became the first British woman to accumulate seven solo number-one singles across the UK singles chart. Her initial rise in the early 2010s came through featured appearances on electronic dance hits, first with Route 94 on the UK number-one single “My Love,” then with symphonic house group Clean Bandit on the worldwide success “Rather Be.” As a headlining artist she continued to top both singles and album charts, releasing her 2015 debut album I Cry When I Laugh and the 2018 follow-up Always in Between, each reaching number one in the UK. Following a period away from the spotlight that included an amicable departure from her label, she returned in 2024 with her third studio album, Jess.

Born and raised north of London, Glynne began singing as a child and maintained close ties to the industry through assorted jobs and coursework before securing a contract with Atlantic Records in 2013. Her vocal contributions on several pivotal recordings quickly propelled her into wider visibility. Route 94’s “My Love” reached the top of the charts in both the UK and Scotland, drawing the attention of Clean Bandit, who enlisted Glynne for 2014’s “Rather Be”; the track achieved global success and received the Grammy for Best Dance Recording.

Two further singles soon charted under her own name: “Right Here,” a collaboration with Gorgon City, and “Real Love,” another pairing with Clean Bandit, each entered the British top ten before year’s end. In 2015 she again reached number one as a guest on Tinie Tempah’s “Not Letting Go,” then scored her first solo chart-topper with “Hold My Hand.” Her debut album I Cry When I Laugh arrived that August on Atlantic and debuted at number one on the UK albums chart. Extensive touring followed, concluding in late 2016; she resumed writing at the start of 2017.

After several weeks of sessions in Los Angeles, Glynne moved to a rural setting to continue work with her closest collaborators. During that stretch she composed most of the material for her next project, including the number-one singles “These Days,” recorded with Rudimental, Macklemore, and Dan Caplen, and “I’ll Be There,” which marked her seventh chart-topping single. Always in Between was released in October 2018, topped the UK albums chart, and was later certified platinum. In May 2019 she teamed with Jax Jones for the single “One Touch,” which later appeared on the deluxe edition of Always in Between.

Once promotion for the album concluded at the decade’s end, Glynne stepped back from music and parted ways with Atlantic in 2022. Later that year she joined a new label and launched her subsequent album cycle with the 2023 single “Silly Me.” Three additional singles carried her through the following months, culminating in the release of her third studio album, Jess, in 2024.
