Biography
While still students, the members of Australian rock outfit the Panics first assembled the group. Their debut EP, issued in 2002 under the same name as the band, was followed by two additional EPs, after which an invitation arrived for a U.K. performance that year. Having signed with LittleBIGMAN Records, the Panics—Julian Douglas on keyboards, guitars, and vocals; Jae Laffer on vocals and guitar; Paul Otway on bass; Drew Wooten on guitar; and Myles Wooten on drums—tracked their first full-length album across sessions in Manchester and Australia. That project, A House on a Street in a Town I'm From, appeared in 2003. Following a stretch of nationwide live dates, the group returned to the U.K. for further shows in 2004. Back in Australia once more, they settled in Melbourne and unveiled their sophomore album, Sleeps Like a Curse. In 2007 the band moved to Dew Process and delivered their third album, Cruel Guards, which reached the national Top 20.
