Biography
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, where he spent his formative years, singer/songwriter Angus Stone initially drew widespread notice through his role in the globally celebrated folk duo Angus & Julia Stone alongside his sister. The siblings showcased contrasting vocal approaches—Julia's light and otherworldly delivery paired with Angus's deeper, assured tone—when they unveiled their first full-length effort, A Book Like This, which earned strong critical praise upon its 2007 appearance. Following the 2010 arrival of Down the Way, each pursued independent work: Julia delivered Memory Machine that same year and By the Horns in 2012, while Angus introduced the energetic and playful Smoking Gun via the alias Lady of the Sunshine, only to shift back toward classic country-folk textures with Broken Brights in 2012, credited under his given name. Their third joint release, the self-titled Angus & Julia Stone, emerged in 2014 under the guidance of producer Rick Rubin. Angus subsequently withdrew to his rural farmhouse, where sessions with companions in the on-site studio yielded a record marked by a brighter, electric '90s slacker-rock edge distinct from his earlier output. Issued under the Dope Lemon moniker, Honey Bones reached audiences in spring 2016.
