Having trained at the London School of Contemporary Dance, singer Alison Limerick entered the music industry in the mid-1980s by supplying backing vocals on prominent releases such as the Style Council’s 1985 album Our Favourite Shop. The next year, 4AD founder Ivo Watts-Russell invited her to contribute to Filigree & Shadow, the second album by his collective project This Mortal Coil, and she later appeared on its 1991 successor, Blood. Additional sessions included work with Peter Murphy on the 1992 release Holy Smoke, after which she issued her solo debut in 1994. Teaming with dance producers David Morales and Frankie Knuckles, she scored successes with “Where Love Lives” and the U.K. Top 20 single “Make It on My Own”; her first full-length album, With a Twist, arrived the same year. The 1996 remix set Club Classics followed, and in 1997 she resurfaced with the single “Put Your Faith in Me.”
