Olga de Souza serves as the luminous frontwoman for the Italian dance outfit Corona, having entered the world on July 16, 1968, in Rio de Janeiro. As a teenager she relocated to Italy in search of musical prospects, where producer Francesco Bontempi soon mentored her and assembled the group to showcase a sound rooted in the pulsating dance anthems of 1990s hitmakers such as La Bouche and the Real McCoy. Corona unveiled their first single, “The Rhythm of the Night,” in December 1993, and it swiftly claimed the summit of the Italian charts, holding the number-one position for a remarkable 13 weeks. Their debut album, sharing the title of that breakthrough track and boasting remixes by Luvdrop and Nick Hussey, followed a year later. Another club staple, “Baby Baby,” surfaced in 1995. Multiple postponements preceded the 1998 arrival of the band’s second album, Walking on Music, yet it never duplicated the chart dominance of their earlier work.
