Emerging suddenly in 1997, Sash! ranked among that year’s top-selling Euro-house acts thanks to three straight instrumental successes titled “Encore Une Fois,” “Ecuador,” and “Stay.” Residing in Cologne, he had previously earned his living as an electrical engineer before entering the DJ trade on a part-time basis. In 1995 he launched his production work under the Sash! name alongside Thomas Lüdke and Ralf Kappmeier. Later the same year the trio scored a dancefloor favorite with “It’s My Life,” which in turn paved the way for the breakthrough of its successor, “Encore Une Fois.” By early 1997 the track had reached the Top Ten across dozens of countries. “Ecuador” and “Stay” achieved comparable results, leading PolyGram to sign Sash! and release the debut album It’s My Life. During 1998 the single “La Primavera,” drawn from the follow-up set Life Goes On, gained widespread continental airplay. Sash! also supplied remixes for 2 Unlimited, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Dr. Alban before issuing Trilennium upon his return in 2000.
