Energy 52, despite their brief existence, left a substantial mark on Germany's emerging trance scene during the early 1990s through their release of "Café del Mar." This piece launched the notable Eye Q label upon its 1993 debut and evolved into one of the decade's most popular trance anthems, if not the foremost, spawning countless reissues and reworkings in the late '90s amid trance's height of popularity. Paul M, also known as Kid Paul and born Paul Schmitz Moormann, teamed up with Cosmic Baby, whose real name is Harald Bluechel, to create the track; prior to this, the pair had collaborated on the 1991 EPs Eternity and State of Mind, yet those efforts fell short of matching the acclaim achieved by the Café del Mar EP, which included mixes of the song by both artists. Beyond the extensive array of "Café del Mar" remixes, Energy 52 produced no additional material.
