Euro-dance artist Whigfield entered the world as Sannie Charlotte Carlson in Skaelskør, Denmark, where childhood years also included time spent on the African continent. After deciding that her modeling work lacked excitement, she turned back toward music and joined performances with her brother’s group. In search of broader prospects, she departed Denmark and connected with Larry Pignagnoli, known for his production work with Spagna; together they began laying down tracks under the Whigfield moniker, chosen to honor her former piano instructor.

The first release, “Saturday Night,” claimed the top spot on Spanish charts for eleven weeks during 1994 before spreading rapidly through Europe and Canada, where global sales eventually surpassed two million units. Whigfield thereby became the initial female performer whose debut single launched straight into the number-one position on the British charts, propelled by enthusiasm from U.K. club visitors who had encountered the track while traveling in Spain. Subsequent offerings “Another Day” and “Think of You” likewise registered as hits, although on a smaller scale.

Those three tracks appeared on the self-titled debut album, issued across Europe in 1995 and reaching American listeners the next year, where audience response proved considerably more muted. Even so, the album’s fourth single, “Sexy Eyes,” achieved widespread success by ascending to number one in Australia during 1996.

Following the release of the remix collection Mega Mixes, Whigfield delivered her second album, Whigfield II, near the end of 1997, which yielded further international successes such as “Gimme Gimme,” “Baby Boy,” “No Tears to Cry,” and “Givin’ All My Love to You.” Whigfield III arrived in late 2000 and generated additional chart entries, among them a cover of the Ronettes’ “Be My Baby,” the Spanish hit “Doo Whop,” and “Much More.”
