Kevin Johnson

The Australian singer-songwriter Johnson remains known above all for his one commercial success, the song ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll (I Gave You The Best Years Of My Life)’. He cut the original track in 1973 on Mainstream Records in his homeland, where it slowly earned radio play and prompted a 1975 cover by Mac Davis that climbed to Billboard’s Top 20 in the US. Jonathan King accordingly licensed Johnson’s version for his UK Records label, resulting in a British Top 30 peak at number 23. The release marked the artist’s sole hit and has never been included on any later compilation.
