Biography
Kilbey Kennedy forms an Australian partnership linking Steve Kilbey, lead singer of the Church, with Martin Kennedy, the instrumentalist from All India Radio. Their work delivers atmospheric pop and rock laced with electronic textures, shaped by a mutual affinity for vintage science fiction, 1960s psychedelia, and the Krautrock and progressive rock of the 1970s. Conceptual threads run through much of their catalog, evident in the theatrical spaceship drama Jupiter 13 from 2021.
The collaboration first took shape in 2005 after Kennedy issued his solo album Big Spaceship on the Karmic Hit label operated by Kilbey's brother John. The Church frontman listened to the record and suggested a joint project. Kennedy took primary responsibility for the instrumental work while Kilbey provided lyrics and melodies, yielding their debut Unseen Music Unheard Words in 2009. Further releases followed with White Magic in 2011, You Are Everything in 2013, and Inside We Are the Same in 2015. Kilbey Kennedy issued the expansive Glow & Fade in 2017, which included the single "We Are Still Waiting." The sci-fi concept album Jupiter 13 appeared in 2021.
