Biography
Singer and songwriter Kris Delmhorst grew up in Brooklyn, NY, where early classical cello instruction later opened doors to gigs alongside local jazz ensembles and folk performers. Relocating to Maine for an extended winter afforded her the chance to master both fiddle and guitar. By 1996 she had settled in Boston, MA, bringing enough stage experience to advance her career; she therefore assembled a demo recording called Swim for It. Two years later she completed her first full-length album, Appetite, enlisting producer Alan Williams along with fiddler Joe Kessler, drummer Billy Conway, guitarist Thomas Juliano, and bassist Mike Rivard. Her follow-up project, the well-received EP Oddlot, preceded a second long-player, Respond. Among the songs listeners encounter across these releases are “Marylou,” “Tear My Stillhouse Down,” “Red Herring,” “Garden Rose,” “Moscow Song,” and “Mean Old Wind.” Twice nominated by the Boston Music Awards for Outstanding Female Singer/Songwriter, Delmhorst has also maintained a busy touring schedule that includes numerous festival appearances.
