Biography
Larry Crane served as John Mellencamp’s sideman from the 1976 Chestnut Street Incident era until Big Daddy wrapped in 1989. During that span he supplied lead guitar and additional stringed instruments that helped define the sonic character of every Mellencamp record. The final joint project visible to the public was the Falling From Grace soundtrack, for which Crane penned four tracks, among them “Whiskey Burnin’,” later cut as his own solo recording. Two years afterward he issued the five-song solo EP Eye for an Eye, followed in 1994 by the full-length Larry Crane album. While remaining a regional favorite throughout Indiana, he has never regained the international profile once attached to his work with the John Mellencamp band.
