Biography
Larry Dunn participated in the Dynatones, a soul and R&B ensemble based in San Francisco, throughout the middle portion of the 1980s, and he has stayed among the most active performers in the Bay Area ever since. With the Rhythm Sheiks, his own group, he maintains a steady schedule of appearances around San Francisco while having completed two European tours. The 1996 release of his first solo effort, Hound of Music, preceded the similarly groove-oriented Migration of the Groove and Got It Workin'.
Dunn entered the world in Casper, Wyoming, into a household filled with music appreciation, and he formed his initial musical group shortly after receiving a guitar upon turning 14. After finishing high school, he relocated to Denver, where he encountered the sounds of blues artists such as B.B. King and Buddy Guy along with rock performers like Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton.
Upon settling in San Francisco during the closing years of the 1970s, Dunn established himself as a prominent session player there, contributing to recordings and performances alongside Bo Diddley, Eddie Money, Steve Cropper, Big Joe Turner, and Mary Wells.
