Lee Oskar

Lee Oskar served as a founding harmonica player and vocalist for War after the West Coast group formed in the late 1960s, initially supporting Eric Burdon before the ensemble struck out independently. His lengthy, wailing solos supplied an essential ingredient in the band’s funk/rock/Latin approach across the 1970s and 1980s. Although he issued two undistinguished fusion albums as a leader during the 1980s and never left War, Oskar began his solo career in 1976 and delivered multiple recordings of solid pop-jazz, R&B, and fusion, among them the strong 1978 set Before the Rain and My Road, Our Road from 1980.
