Liont serves as the performing alias for Timo Mikal Torres, the German pop-rap musician who first rose to prominence via YouTube clips in the early 2010s. Born in 1992, Torres started writing rhymes at thirteen and initially posted tracks on MySpace before shifting to YouTube in 2011. His lighthearted tracks centered on ordinary adolescent experiences, paired with non-musical clips, resonated strongly among German-speaking teenagers and drew millions of followers across platforms. He partnered with fellow online sensation Kayef, another German rapper, and the pair issued the album Sexstreetboys in 2012. The duo reappeared in 2014 with the single “Nie Wieder Niemand,” at the same time Liont prepared his first solo project. Multiple singles dropped in early 2015 and achieved modest chart traction throughout German-speaking territories, especially Austria. The full-length Löwenkind followed in April 2015, maintaining his buoyant rap approach while revealing glimpses of a more troubled personal outlook. Although critics responded unfavorably, the release quickly succeeded, reaching number two on the German album charts.
