Biography
In the 1980s vocalist L.J. Reynolds lingered near the brink of major success yet never secured the breakout single or album that would have launched him as a solo force. During the early 1960s he issued several strong singles for Tri-Spin under the name Larry "Chubby" Reynolds. By 1969 he had shifted to Mainstream and the following year he served as lead vocalist for The Relations. After recording for assorted small independents he placed one Law-ton single, "Let One Hurt Do," inside the R&B Top 30 in 1971. In 1973 Reynolds stepped in for William Howard within The Dramatics and stayed until 1980. He next inked a solo contract with Capitol, where his LPs often earned positive notices without achieving strong sales. Among those Capitol releases only the track "Touch Down" managed to reach the R&B Top 30. Reynolds returned to The Dramatics in 1986.
