Formed in Mexico City during October 1948, los Tres Diamantes earned recognition as the longest-running ensemble among traditional trios. They also ranked among the small number of such groups that secured renown far beyond Mexico. Guitarists Gustavo Prado Gutierrez (b. March 25, 1923) and Saulo Sedano Chavira (b. July 25, 1925), together with lead vocalist Enrique Quezada Reyes (b. July 15, 1920), signed with RCA in 1949 and notched their earliest successes shortly afterward, among them “Cuando Me Vaya” and “Te Quiero, Dijiste.” International prominence arrived by the 1950s, supported by extensive tours that carried the trio to Europe and Japan. Retaining the original membership, the group sustained both performances and recordings well into the 1990s.
