Biography
Louie Ramirez cultivated expertise across composition, arrangement, percussion, and vibraharp during his teenage years of musical study. His ensemble quickly earned recognition as a leading seller of recordings while routinely filling venues to standing-room-only capacity, aided in no small measure by the vocal work of Ray de la Paz. Ramirez first entered the professional ranks in 1956, taking over the vibraharp chair from Pete Terrace in Joe Loco’s group. He made his initial recorded appearance with Joe Loco on Ansonia Records the next year. Stepping out as a bandleader, he issued Introducing Louie Ramirez on Rmo Records in 1963, after which his career advanced steadily through the release of dozens of well-received albums across subsequent decades.
