Born in Jamaica’s St. Catherine parish, Lutan Fyah entered a world saturated with music because his grandfather operated a sound system that regularly drew visits from Lieutenant Stitchie, Papa San, Lady G., and the legendary Dennis Brown. This roots reggae artist weaves messages of unity, love, and justice throughout his work, and he long envisioned a singing career, yet he also channeled serious energy into soccer, earning a spot on a professional squad after high school. In 1999 he stepped away from sports to accept an internship at Buju Banton’s Gargamel label, where he soon recorded tracks and added freelance sessions for other producers. The pivotal break arrived in 2001 when singer Jah Mason booked him as support on a worldwide tour. Three years afterward, Minor7Flat5 released his debut full-length, Dem No Know Demself. Lustre Kings followed with Time and Place in 2005, and 2006 brought two further albums: Phantom War on Greensleeves and Healthy Lifestyle on VP.
