Malouma

Malouma entered the world in Mauritainia, where exposure to musical traditions and cultural elements from the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa during childhood shaped the core of her vocal style in a manner reminiscent of Ofra Haza, Najma, or Angelique Kidjo. Formal instruction in conventional techniques equipped her as both a singer and instrumentalist at an early age, yet she later chose to blend modern influences into her approach upon reaching maturity. That vocal work earned her recognition throughout her homeland as well as in France, Egypt, and Tunisia. For the first LP she enlisted Senegal’s Pape Dieng, a seasoned producer whose prior credits include projects with Youssou N’Dour, Baaba Maal, and further leading African artists.
