Biography
Marika Ninou ranked among the foremost Greek vocalists of the early 1950s. Through her 78 rpm recordings she gave voice to the songs of Vasilis Tsitsanis, Manolis Hiotis, Yannis Papaioanou, Yorgos Mitsakis, and Apostolas Kaldaras.
Born in the Caucasus, Ninou arrived in Athens during 1948, where she and her husband and son presented an acrobatic routine. Her singing ability quickly drew notice, leading to an engagement alongside Stellakis Perpiniadis at the Florida club in Alexandria. She next undertook repeated appearances with pianist and composer Vassilis Tsitsanis, who served as her accompanist until the end of her professional life.
In 1955 she made her first American stage appearances, sharing the bill with Kostas Kaplanis, yet soon afterward developed cancer. She passed away the next year.
