Biography
Boykan’s musical training unfolded at Harvard under Piston and at Yale with Hindemith, after which he joined the faculty of Brandeis University in 1957. Serial procedures, shaped by the examples of Stravinsky and Webern, govern his output and give prominence to extended melodic contours. A substantial share of these scores occupy lengthy spans within the close quarters of small groups, quartets among them.
