Biography

Born on December 30, 1950, in rural Minnesota, Marty Haugen built his identity as a liturgical composer and pianist. After receiving a psychology degree from Luther College in Decorah, IA, he shifted focus upon graduation and began crafting songs expressly for Catholic worship. He joined the GIA roster in 1982 and issued I Send My Light, launching an extended sequence of recordings; his initial venture into musical theater, Tales of Wonder, arrived in 1989. Since its premiere, “Mass of Creation” has stood as his signature work and a continuing staple across the Roman Catholic tradition.
