Biography
Machanic Manyeruke, the Zimbabwe-born guitarist and vocalist who entered the world in 1950, together with his three-piece ensemble the Puritans, first carried gospel music across Africa. Early in the 1970s he drew notice as director of the sizable Gospel Singers choir. In 1985 he assembled the Puritans and adopted a reduced format, pairing his soulful vocals and electric guitar with keyboards and two female vocalists. The resulting texture let his Bible-based tunes ascend through intense passion and spiritual conviction. www.Bluesworld.com commended the self-titled 1986 debut album by Manyeruke and the Puritans for its "haunting beauty of melodies which are unforgettable."
