Biography
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Midnight Juggernauts operate as an electro-pop synth rock outfit. The founding pair, paying tribute to the Ramones, adopted the names Vincent Juggernaut and Andy Juggernaut. They first crossed paths in high school, where they performed basic guitar rock before shifting focus toward synthesizers and dance-oriented sounds. Lacking a steady drummer, their earliest shows featured rotating percussionists and featured the band members dressed in military dictator attire. Those elements were later dropped, along with the temporary players, in favor of Daniel Stricker, who marked his permanent role by taking the name Thunderfist. The group supplied remixes for the Presets, !!!, Electric Six, Damn Arms, K.I.M., Dragonette, and additional acts. Their first full-length effort, Dystopia, came out in 2007 via the independent imprint Siberia. Exposure increased after French dance act Justice named the Australian band among their preferred artists in conversations with BBC Radio and Pitchfork. The two acts subsequently shared a North American tour, and Dystopia reached international markets in mid-2008. Festival appearances and other concerts occupied much of 2008–2009 while the band tracked its follow-up record on home soil. That album, The Crystal Axis, surfaced in Australia during May 2010 and reached most remaining territories before the year closed.
