Biography
Miguel Matamoros ranks among Cuba's foremost composers across history. He created dozens of enduring standards, among them "Lagrimas Negras," "Son de la Loma," "Mujer de Antonio," and "El Que Siembra Su Maiz." The bulk of these works first reached listeners through 1930s recordings by the Trío Matamoros, whose members included Rafael Cueto and Ciro Rodríguez. Interpretations by Celia Cruz, Beny More, Maria Dolores Pradera, and Daniel Santos subsequently carried Matamoros' pieces into the broader Latin popular repertoire, where they persisted for decades afterward.
