Biography
Mike Metheny, the elder sibling of Pat Metheny, began his musical journey performing classical trumpet. Upon completing his studies at the University of Missouri and finishing his military service in the Army, his brother inspired him to explore jazz. Metheny enrolled at Berklee upon reaching age 25 and quickly joined the teaching staff. Opting for the flügelhorn because it matched his gentle sound and relaxed approach, he has issued five albums as a leader on Headfirst in 1982, MCA/Impulse, and Altenburgh in 1995. Residing in Kansas City, where he occasionally plays the EVI, Metheny has also recorded with Karrin Allyson and works as a freelance music journalist.
