Although recognized as a capable performer of blues and ballads, she never achieved widespread fame or exerted significant influence on others. Her initial recognition arrived through a 1946 recording collaboration with the renowned boogie-woogie pianist Albert Ammons. Two albums issued by Bluesville in 1960 stand as her finest work, with one supported by organist Shirley Scott and the other bolstered by the robust tenor saxophone playing of Al Sears.
