Born into a working-class household in Brest, France, in 1964, Cristophe Miossec developed an intense devotion to rock music during his early teens. He formed a band and spent his remaining teenage years writing and playing shows with them. University studies in history, paired with a journalism career, led him to abandon music entirely for a period. Growing weary of academic life, he relocated to Paris and cycled through a string of unrelated jobs. Frustration with his professional path prompted a gradual return to music; he began assembling a home studio. Assisted by Guillaume Jouan and Bruno Leroux, he issued the all-original album Boire in 1995, which received widespread acclaim. The three musicians toured France extensively the following year and built a substantial following. Their next release, Baiser, reached a larger audience and earned a nomination for Best Newcomer of the Year at the 1997 Victories de la Musique. Issued a year later, the third album A Prendre met with only modest interest. Miossec’s commercial slide continued with the 2001 release Brule, which incurred financial losses. During the demanding tour schedule that followed, he and his collaborators generated a substantial body of new songs. While performing across the south of France, the group recorded those compositions live for the album 1964. The record revived his career and marked a new artistic direction ten years after his debut. Listeners warmly received his sixth studio album, L'Entriente, in 2006; it yielded several radio hits and drew his largest audience to date.
