John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants launched Mono Puff as his eclectic side project, enlisting veteran session bassist Hal Cragin and Skeleton Key drummer Steve Calhoon. The trio first appeared through a run of EPs on Flansburgh’s “Hello CD of the Month Club,” after which many of those tracks were gathered on the 1996 album Unsupervised. Two years later came the funk-influenced follow-up It’s Fun to Steal.
