Biography
In 1967 the Ohio garage outfit the Music Explosion climbed to number two with "Little Bit O'Soul," a raw, driving pop/rock cut propelled by its unforgettable bass-organ riff. Studio overseers Jeffrey Katz and Jerry Kasenetz layered on so much polish that the band’s own identity was largely buried, and the same pair would shortly launch the bubblegum sound through projects involving the 1910 Fruitgum Co. and the Ohio Express. The Music Explosion never adopted the childlike style of those acts, yet no later song came close to matching the impact of "Little Bit O'Soul," and the group’s only other appearance inside the Top 100 was the fleeting success of "Sunshine Games."
