New York Voices

During the 1990s, the New York Voices emerged as one of the few standout jazz vocal ensembles, drawing on vocalese traditions for bop material while crafting fresh takes on contemporary jazz and pop selections. Darmon Meader, who performs on reeds and EWI in addition to vocals, first assembled a vocal group for a 1986 European tour under the New York Voices name through Ithaca College. The lineup turned official the next year, featuring a rhythm section alongside five singers: Meader on reeds and EWI, Caprice Fox, Kim Nazarian, Sara Krieger (later replaced by Lauren Kinhan), and Peter Eldridge. The group went on to issue a series of engaging albums for GRP.
