Biography
Nocaute, whose name translates as "knockout" in English, performs the carioca style native to Brazil, fusing rap, samba, hard rock, and funk. The group formed in 1992 in Belford Roxo and includes rappers Eddi MC and Nino Rap, guitarist Ed Esteves, bassist César Belieny, and female drummer Andréa Wolff. Because carioca initially found little traction across Brazil, the band encountered early obstacles in obtaining a contract, yet ultimately signed with Black Groove, Sony Brazil’s newly established hip-hop label. Their 2001 album CD Pirata earned a nomination for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album at the third Latin Grammy Awards.
