Forming the London-based duo Nomad placed Damon Rochefort in charge of programming and production beside the soulful vocals of Sharon Dee Clarke. Their collaboration produced only a single album, the 1991 release Changing Cabins, which nevertheless contained the major club success "(I Wanna Give You) Devotion," a track that dominated playlists for several months that year. Before joining Nomad, Clarke had already put out several respected 12-inch singles, among them 1989's "Something Special" and 1986's "Dance Your Way Out the Door." Rochefort had previously delivered remixes for assorted tracks and contributed to the collective G.T., yet Nomad marked his first substantial effort in which he composed and performed the bulk of the music himself. Although the duo disbanded after that lone record, Rochefort and Clarke resumed their partnership on the subsequent project Serious Rope, now joined by new collaborator Aron Friedman. In addition to issuing their own singles spotlighting Clarke's vocals, Rochefort and Friedman wrote and produced material for other acts such as Kim Wilde, LaToya Jackson, and Jeanne Dee.
